Puffling

The iconic quirky puffins are part of Jersey’s natural heritage. They’re sadly now Critically Endangered due to climate change and overfishing, which has reduced their main food source, sand eels. With only four breeding pairs remaining in Jersey in 2022, artist Katherine wanted to highlight their plight by featuring Jersey’s entire puffin population on this tortoise, a total of only eight birds. Each puffin painted has its own unique character. Katherine is a painter inspired by the coast and marine life, and has a passion for colour, pattern and texture. Her work is influenced by Aboriginal art and her Greek heritage. ‘Puffling’ is a baby puffin.
